Calcott Ten is a modern and comfortable student accommodation located in the heart of Coventry's university district. It offers a range of private studios and shared flats with en-suite facilities and ample storage options.

The complex is a mix of newly constructed buildings and a lovingly restored former Carworks, built in 1896 for local car and motorcycle manufacturer Calcott Brothers.

The property is owned by Mapletree and operated by Homes for Students and when their ageing Ving Card lock sets became obsolete, they needed a reliable solution that was suitable for retro fitting.

The Infinity electronic lock is not only TLJ’s most popular lock set, it is also perfect for refurbishment projects and can replace obsolete Ving Card locks almost seamlessly, whilst maintaining fire integrity.

As the operator already had experience of using the TLJ system it was an easy decision to move all rooms over to the TLJ Infinity lock.

As with all refurbishment projects, TLJ undertook a thorough site survey ensuring all door types were taken into account and the integrity of the doors was maintained throughout. Due to TLJ’s capacity to hold stock the installation was able to be undertaken very promptly and supported the client in reaching their project milestones. In total 876 Infinity locksets were fitted and 17 online doors.

The install was undertaken on a block by block basis whilst the students were still occupying the rooms. Our installation teams are trained to work in live environments and all hold DBS certificates. The TLJ operations team worked closely with the on-site team to ensure the installation caused as little disruption as possible.

Homes for Students reported that out of the 733 rooms which were upgraded there were no complaints received either during or after install which is exactly what we aim to achieve.

“I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend TLJ Access Control, from the initial quote, through the site visits, the installation and the commissioning, the service has been second to none. All of the TLJ team have been very friendly, helpful and polite and nothing was too much trouble.

The engineers were hardworking and considerate and always tidied up after themselves whilst getting the job done with minimum disruption to our students.

We also took out a service plan, which in my view is worth it’s weight in gold, with 733 students on site its so reassuring to have the help at the end of the phone should we need it.”

Heidi Bryan, Manager for Homes for Students at Calcott 10.

Heidi also mentioned the reduction in maintenance requirements since the new TLJ system has been in place, going from 10-15 battery changes a week on the old locks to one annual battery change that will be completed as part of the annual service contract.
